Introducing.... the "Chocolate" puppies!  Hershey, Snickers, Twix, Kitkat, Rolo, and Baby Ruth are adorable 8 week old Mastiff mix puppies with a story to tell!  They were born at a very loving foster home where they were played with, picked up and held every day. They have known nothing but love and comfort their entire lives, and therefore are extremely friendly, well-adjusted puppies who love everyone they meet! 

Before we get into their individual personalities (which are amazing by the way!) let's go back and tell you about their sweet mom, Emma, and how these puppies ended up at DPR.  

Mama Emma was picked up as a stray in North Carolina and brought to the local kill shelter.  She was very frightened at the shelter (who wouldn't be?!) and stayed huddled in the back of her kennel and was too shy to socialize with any potential adopters.  She was so scared that she wouldn't even walk on a leash and had to be literally carried everywhere. Thankfully, a kind man felt drawn to this Heinz 57 girl and adopted her right before her scheduled euthanasia date.  The shelter neglected to tell him that she might be pregnant!  Once it became clear that she was indeed pregnant, he did not hesitate to help her birth the babies and care for them until they were old enough to be adopted.  He reached out to DPR, and we of course agreed to take the pups and find them wonderful homes.  On Feb 27th, Emma brought 6 beautiful and healthy puppies into the world, with her new loving family by her side.  With love and dedication, not just one life was saved, but seven, and for those seven the world will be forever changed. 

Also, we are happy to report that once Emma realized she was in her forever home, she was no longer scared or shy at all!  She is now an extremely friendly girl who runs and plays, and loves fluffy toys and playing fetch. She goes on long hikes with her dad and loves everyone she meets!  It's amazing what a little bit of love and kindness can do.  

Emma's puppies are now 8 weeks old and are excited for this next chapter where they find their very own forever homes!  We have included pictures of their mom below- we are not sure what her mix is. But the puppies look a lot like English Mastiff pups, so we think there is at least some Mastiff in them.  They are only 8 weeks old and already 12 pounds, so they are going to be BIG dogs!! 

Meet Baby Ruth! Spunk, that's what this girl has got! Baby Ruth can make a game out of anything, and has no issue putting her bigger littermates into place. Baby Ruth is pretty fearless and outgoing, and loves to play with squeaky toys and plush toys, as well as tug and tag. She is also a very very affectionate and sweet little girl who is just as happy to climb up onto your lap to cuddle and go to sleep. She is the most gentle and and is calmer than her brothers, and is therefore the favorite of the little kids she has met.  She snores, and when she gets going she also snorts, just like a pig!
