Your inspirational story for the day!
DPR rescued Deano from a kill shelter. This sweet, playful 6-month old healthy boy went to our vet to be neutered 2 weeks ago. The surgery was uneventful, but he crashed right afterwards. The vet thinks he had a bad reaction to the anesthesia. He was not breathing and had no pulse, so they bagged him and started CPR. Miraculously, they were able to revive him, but he sustained brain damage due to the lack of oxygen. It was heart wrenching to see our once-spunky Deano partially paralyzed, blind, disoriented and unable to eat or go to the bathroom on his own. After a week, there was not much change, he could barely lift his head. We consulted a neurologist, and she gave us hope that he might be able to heal if we were willing to give him some more time. Deano was hospitalized for 2 weeks with around the clock care from our amazing vets. He went back to his foster home to continue healing and learn how to walk again. We are so thrilled to report that he is now walking, going to the litter box on his own, eating like a little piggie, and we think he has at least partial vision because he is able to navigate around the house without bumping into anything! He is still a little bit wobbaly on his feet, and although he always attempts to go potty in the litter box, he does not always have the best aim. He has been seen regularly by our vets, and they are very happy with his progress. They said he is ready for adoption and should not need any special care or medications. Deano worked so hard and fought through so many obstacles to get to where he is today. We are so proud of you Deano!!
