My name is Emma and my story is a very sad one. I was a stray found on the streets of South Carolina. I was taken to a very rural pound called Cherokee who gets 50 to 75 dogs a week with only a few that actually go home. Once they dragged me to the kennel and put me inside I was too scared to move. I literally did not move for two days. Even though the floor was cold and the prisoners who work there sprayed me along with the kennel floor - I didn't move. They named me Sad Dog and let me be. Luckily, the rescue group DPR saw something in my sad eyes and coordinated a transport to bring me to Delaware on 2/4/06. I was still so frightened I would not walk. I had to be carried into the house and I was put in a soft bed in a safe and quiet place for my first day. My new foster mom has been very kind and even carries me outside to feel the grass and sniff the air. I have realized that when she reaches out to touch me, its not to hurt me. I still cringe but I'm starting to understand. I have learned to walk on carpet but still won't go near that hardwood floor. Maybe this week. I am very underweight but the great food I've been given will fatten me up soon. My foster mom say's she see's the Aussie in my movements and body shape and my face the shape of a Golden. Today I wagged my tail and was brave enough not to run away when she put out her hand. I'm still scared but I'm learning. My mom will update my progress and let you know just how quickly I'm going to come around and become a real dog again, one who is learning about love and trust. Mom has promised that nothing but kindness is coming my way. If you think you would be the right family for me; one that is understanding of a dog who has been abused, please submit an application.
